Bringing Industry Expertise Into the Classroom to Strengthen Digital Marketing Capability
LIFT Academy (formerly Clacton Coastal Academy) commissioned KAT Marketing to deliver a structured, multi-session digital marketing training programme for BTEC National Business students completing Unit 17: Digital Marketing. The academy sought a professional partner capable of bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world practice, helping students understand contemporary marketing tools, platforms and strategic approaches while developing their own campaign plans.
The collaboration included four in-school training sessions, an industry visit to the Freeport East Harwich Innovation Hub and a final workshop in which students showcased their own campaigns for professional commentary. The programme was delivered to the highest standards of training, mentoring and educational practice, ensuring each student benefited from hands-on learning and practical application of industry knowledge.
A Structured, Professional Learning Journey Aligned to BTEC Curriculum Requirements
KAT Marketing designed a progressive training structure that aligned directly with Learning Aims of the Digital Marketing Unit, ensuring full academic coverage while delivering an engaging, sector-relevant experience. Our approach centred on four principles:
- Real-world relevance – introducing current campaigns, digital tools, analytics practices and platform strategies.
- Active learning – embedding group work, live campaign analysis, device-optimisation exercises and segmentation tasks.
- Professional insight – giving students access to working marketers, agency workflows, campaign planning processes and innovation environments.
- Confidence building – guiding learners step-by-step through the marketing planning process so they could produce and justify their own digital campaign.
Each session was designed to connect theory with professional practice, helping students understand how strategy, audience behaviour, ROI and the promotional mix operate in real organisational contexts.
