Showcasing Real Change at a School on a Transformational Journey
KAT Marketing, working in partnership with Captiva Learning, was commissioned to produce a suite of high-quality videos for Northern House Academy in Oxford. The brief was to capture the school’s culture, teaching practice, personal development ethos and the impact of Captiva/NCE training on staff, students and families.
Filmed during a comprehensive on-site production day, the project required a sensitive, values-driven approach, blending documentary-style storytelling with professional interview content to authentically represent the school’s progress. The filming plan spanned classroom activity, interviews, B-roll, student voice segments and a parent open afternoon, ensuring a truly representative portrait of daily life at Northern House Academy.
Immersive, In-School Filming Designed to Capture Authentic Voices
Our approach was shaped around immersion—documenting the school community in action and gathering genuine reflections from staff, pupils and parents. The team arrived on site early for a full briefing with Headteacher Ricky Stevens, including safeguarding protocols and a list of students not to be filmed.
The day progressed through structured, insight-rich segments:
- Classroom footage capturing engagement, collaborative learning and positive behaviour practices
- Staff interviews exploring the impact of Captiva/NCE training on professional growth
- B-roll of values-led interactions reflecting the school’s HENCUP ethos
- Student voice sessions on support plans and confidence development
- Parent testimonials during an open afternoon, highlighting the school’s transformation
This method ensured that each storyline—professional, personal, cultural and relational—was represented. The tone throughout remained warm, aspirational and inclusive, emphasising genuine change and positive journeys.
A Comprehensive Suite of Long-Form, Short-Form and Testimonial Videos
KAT Marketing delivered a complete set of video assets tailored for multiple audiences and channels. This included:
- Two long-form videos blending interviews with vibrant school-life footage
- Six to ten short-form videos optimised for social media, spotlighting high-energy learning moments and powerful soundbites
- Dedicated testimonial pieces featuring staff, student and parent perspectives
- A one-minute vox pop compilation capturing reactions to the positive changes driven by training and culture development
Filming ran to a precise schedule—from early classroom activity through to end-of-day reflections with senior leadership—to ensure all planned content was captured seamlessly. With multiple camera operators, a clear content plan and well-managed on-site coordination, the project delivered an exceptional breadth and depth of material ready for both promotional and internal use.
A Powerful Set of Films That Surpassed Expectations and Strengthened School Storytelling
The final video suite exceeded Northern House Academy’s expectations, offering a compelling, emotionally resonant and professionally delivered portrayal of the school’s environment and evolution. Staff and leadership praised the authenticity, warmth and clarity of the finished films, noting that the videos captured the heart of the school – its values, its pupils and the real impact of Captiva/NCE training.
The videos provide the Academy and Captiva Learning with long-lasting assets for communications, stakeholder engagement, recruitment and training promotion. Parents and staff responded particularly positively to seeing their voices represented, while the short-form edits proved ideal for social channels and outreach campaigns. The project not only met the brief but elevated the way Northern House Academy’s story can be shared with the wider community.
