Duck, Duck, Goose

If you’ve come across the idea of AI content creation, you might be slightly surprised that it’s the Content Manager at KAT Marketing that is ready to champion its impact on the landscape of social media.

Some might have you think that a blog explaining how AI content creation might impact on the way we see and receive different media in the future is not dissimilar to a turkey writing an open letter in The Times extolling the virtues of a traditional Christmas lunch!

So what’s the truth? First up, let’s establish a clearer understanding of what AI content creation is and, equally importantly, what it isn’t.

At its simplest, AI content creation is the method of generating spontaneous copy using software powered by artificial intelligence. This software allows you to input elements of text which are then collated and supplemented with AI data gathering to produce an end product of finished content. This content can be anything from long-form blog content through to one-line social media captions. AI is also being used to create filters on social media platforms or edit images.

AI content creation applications already exist that allow you to simply check boxes to broadly describe the type of content you want to generate – such as Retail… Furniture… Sustainably Sourced. Add a few more details, and within a click, you have copy to a desired word length that might accurately describe your products on a website or introduce your company in a newsletter.

As an individual whose currency is the words I use and the way I craft them, does this mean my goose is cooked? Undoubtedly, AI content creation is going to be a feature of our future lives and within a few short years it is likely that a huge proportion of content you see online will have been influenced or even generated completely by AI software. And it’s very likely that the standards of grammar and spelling will improve dramatically.

But what's certain is that this same content will not have been inspired by AI. Inspiration comes from the soul, it comes from our imagination, it comes with feelings of humour, joy, sorrow or even anger.

The challenge of every piece of content that wants to land effectively with its audience is the ability to cut through the noise, to engage and to connect. Even today, before an onslaught of AI content, it is good quality, hand-crafted content that’s required to hit the mark and reach an audience. I don’t ever see a day when that won’t be the case.
