Is ChatGPT already old hat?

Is ChatGPT already old hat?

If you are sitting there munching on a mince pie thinking that next year might be a great time to start looking into how AI could make a difference to your business, you might already be behind the game.

It’s just over a year now since the launch of ChatGPT truly brought the ideas behind AI into our consciousness, but there are already some who might even dare to predict that ChatGPT could become an irrelevance before we next start ordering the Christmas turkey.

Why so? Gemini just walked into town. Gemini is Google’s entry into the mainstream AI marketplace, and when you consider that Google created much of the foundational technology behind much of the AI capabilities we already know and has been a self-declared ‘AI-first’ organisation for nearly a decade, then you know they are going to come out swinging.

And swing they have, looking to give a bloody nose to OpenAI’s grasp on the AI concept as it stands. Yesterday, Google launched Bard AI, a conversational AI tool to help brainstorm ideas, spark creativity and accelerate productivity, with features and functionality users of ChatGPT will recognise. Google boasts that Bard AI outperforms ChatGPT significantly on 30 out of 32 benchmarks, including reasoning, math and code.

As Google’s latest large language AI model it is anticipated that Gemini will ultimately affect virtually all of Google’s products. Gemini ultimately has three strands - a lighter version called Gemini Nano designed to be run natively and offline on Android devices, Gemini Pro which will power many Google AI services including Bard, and Gemini Ultra, Google’s most powerful large language model yet created primarily for data centres and enterprise applications.

Developers and enterprise customers will be able to access Gemini Pro through Google Generative AI Studio or Vertex AI in Google Cloud from December 13 with Gemini Ultra to follow next year.

In terms of marketing, adding a new product with improved capability into a marketplace where we are already comfortable interacting regularly with other Google services has the potential to propel Google into a very powerful position.

With Meta and Apple very much wanting a piece of the AI action too, there is no question that the pace of innovation is unlikely to slow down anytime soon. The question that does remain however, is how AI will actively, efficiently and safely improve the productivity of our businesses and our daily lives.

To be on the right side of that debate, you’ll want to be up to date with the latest ideas and innovations in the world of AI – so come and have a chat with KAT. Call Katie or Julian on 01206 765544.
