There can be a lot of confusing jargon used in SEO conversation that often threatens to see clients glaze over.
Core Web Vitals (CWV) are definitely one of these.
Start talking Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) and Total Blocking Time (TBT) and just watch as your target audience begin squinting, trying to absorb what it all means.
CWV focuses on how user-friendly and stable a website is to visitors, focusing on the speed of which a user can access what they need to.
The KAT digital team recently happened upon a recent CWV online conversation between Google Search Advocate, John Mueller and an SEO.
During the back and forth, John suggested that smaller websites should not focus on Core Web Vitals as a top priority.
This is an interesting take which John caveated by saying that it depends on if users are seeing issues with website performance that might cause them to “bail”.
Core web vitals form a bit part of Google Search Console and are one of the few truly controllable and quantifiable actions SEO experts can take to improve a website.
As ever, the focus for websites should be on providing helpful content that users want and need to read.
The usability and speed of a website in digesting this content is key and therefore should be at least an ongoing priority for all websites as they look to grow and improve.
