Trick and Treats

19 Aug 2022

Welcome… we’ve been expecting you…

The KAT pack were thrilled to launch the Trick and Treats project in Colchester for its inaugural year in October 2022 – the ultimate free Halloween activity of the year!

Our spooktacular project featured a free app, designed and developed by the KAT team, and a fun, interactive trail around the city centre. Printed QR codes laid in wait at 30 locations across Colchester, in anticipation of app users seeking them out and scanning them with the app to unlock trick and treat rewards from each venue.

Intrepid explorers enjoyed unlocking freebies, discounts, competition entries, forfeits, interactive challenges and much more all in the name of spine-tingling, family-friendly fun for the spookiest of seasons. Users tracked their progress and achievements tracked in the app – the more locations visited, the more rewards were unlocked by reaching key event milestones.

Over 2,000 Halloween lovers (and sceptics!) of all ages downloaded the Trick and Treats app before jumping on their broomsticks to blow away the cobwebs out in Colchester throughout the month!

Hope to see you again next year – we’ll be watching from the shadows…

More About the Project

The Trick and Treats project, including the Halloween-themed interactive trail and the app, was designed, created and delivered by the KAT Marketing team, who own the original IP for the app and project. We were pleased to be working in partnership again with our friends at Colchester Borough Council and Our Colchester BID, and with contributions from allocated funding from section 106.

We’d also like to extend huge thanks to all of the fantastic Colchester centre venues that helped to make the project possible by providing some scarily great trick and treat rewards for trail hunters to unlock with the app. We loved watching the Halloween adventures unfold with you! You can find a full list of participating venues at

Trick and Treats built on the KAT team’s experience and success on previous projects, including the Stand Tall for Giraffes sculpture trail with Colchester Zoo and Wild in Art in 2013, Octopus Ahoy! sculpture trail which splashed down in Tendring in 2021, our Colchester and Harwich Stars trails for Christmas 2018 and 2021 – and loads more. When it comes to providing vibrant interaction community events, KAT are the cats to call.
