Make Marketing Great Again

Make Marketing Great Again

So America - and indeed the world - enters a new era following Donald Trump’s success in the US elections. But how did a convicted felon who denied the existence of climate change and advocated injecting disinfectant to get rid of Covid become the leader of the free world?

There are, of course, a number of reasons for his success, not least the dissatisfaction of the American electorate with the Biden administration, but among those reasons is effective marketing.

The first marketing triumph was to get his message across simply and repeatedly. Trump began every rally with the question: ‘Are you better off than you were four years ago?’

It hit the electorate square between the eyes and evoked a simple yes/no response. Never mind about the impact of Covid nor the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East which affect us all…it was a simple question and one of fundamental importance. And the answer was undeniable.

Next there was the slogan - MAGA…Make America Great Again. Forget that this was “procured” from former President Ronald Reagan, it was a master stroke of marketing. After all which American doesn’t want their country to be great?

Finally, there was the use of alternative media streams. In addition to the traditional debates, rallies and interviews, Trump’s team understood they could tap into the younger electorate through social media and podcasts…and they exploited this to the max.

It meant this predicted close election was won with ease. If anyone ever questions the importance, influence or potential of successful marketing, point them towards the 2024 US election which is about to change the course of history.
